Nobel Resources Corp. Commences First Diamond Drill Program at Flagship Cuprita Copper Project, Antofagasta Region, Chile
Nobel becomes first company to drill test this copper porphyry target in a prolific Chilean mining district
Overview
Nobel Resources Corp. announced that mobilization by the company's diamond drill contractor to the Cuprita copper project has commenced, with drilling expected to begin during the week of January 12th. All necessary permits for this initial drilling program have been received from local authorities. Nobel is the first company to drill test Cuprita, a copper porphyry project located in the Atacama region of northern Chile within the Paleocene Porphyry Copper Belt that hosts major deposits including El Salvador, Cerro Colorado, Spence, and Sierra Gorda.
Key Highlights
- Diamond drill contractor mobilization commenced; drilling to begin week of January 12th.
- All necessary permits received from local authorities.
- Nobel is the first company to drill test the Cuprita project.
- 2025 field campaigns identified a leach cap with associated copper, lead, and zinc soil anomalies.
- Soil anomaly exhibits values more than 300% above expected background levels.
- Leach cap and soil anomaly are coincidental with a ground magnetic low, a common indicator associated with mineralized systems in the region.
- Geological mapping identified a large area of tourmaline breccias, considered a favorable pathfinder characteristic of productive porphyry systems.
Project Context
Cuprita is located in the Atacama region of northern Chile within the Metallogenic Paleocene Porphyry Copper Belt. The project sits on a north-northeast trending major structural corridor crosscut by a northwest trending secondary structure — a setting described as almost identical to the structural setting of the Spence, Sierra Gorda, and El Salvador porphyry deposits to the north.
During 2025 field campaigns, Nobel geologists identified several key indicators supporting the potential for a buried mineralized porphyry deposit:
Leach Cap: A leach cap was identified at Cuprita with classic hydrothermal alteration similar to that found above buried porphyry systems. Leach caps are a key feature of intact porphyry systems in this region, where recirculation of acidic fluids from a buried porphyry below often leaves a bleached or iron oxide "rusty" appearance on surface.
Soil Geochemistry: An associated copper, lead, and zinc anomaly in soils was identified, with the highest copper values occurring southeast of the outcropping leach cap. Much of the soil anomaly exhibits values more than 300% above expected background levels.
Geophysics: The leach cap and soil anomaly are coincidental with a ground magnetic low, a common indicator associated with mineralized systems in the region where hydrothermal processes have replaced magnetic minerals.
Structural Setting: The target is situated near the intersection of a major north-northeast striking fault structure with numerous northwest striking quartz veins containing copper oxides. Intersecting major faults is a common structural control for the emplacement of copper-gold porphyries in the region.
Tourmaline Breccias: Geological mapping identified a large area of tourmaline breccias covering much of the target, considered an additional favorable pathfinder characteristic of productive porphyry systems.
Management Commentary
"During 2025, our technical team identified highly prospective near surface copper targets at the Cuprita project," said Larry Guy, Chairman and CEO of Nobel. "We are excited to commence drilling this large-scale, mineralized alteration system characterized by widespread copper minerals in outcrop. Nobel is the first company to drill test Cuprita, a copper project with exciting potential, in a prolific copper mining region of Chile. This is a fabulous start to 2026 for the Company."
Additional Corporate Update
Nobel also announced the issuance of 3,900,000 stock options exercisable at $0.05 per share for three years, and 3,600,000 restricted share units vesting annually over three years, to certain officers and directors. Both grants are subject to TSX Venture Exchange approval.
What to Watch Next
- Initial drill results from the January 2026 program.
- Assay results and geological interpretations from drilling beneath the identified leach cap.
- Follow-up exploration based on initial drill findings.
Commentary
This release marks a significant inflection point for Nobel as it transitions from target generation to drill testing at its flagship Cuprita project. The combination of a surface leach cap, strongly anomalous soil geochemistry (300%+ above background), coincident magnetic low, favorable structural setting, and tourmaline breccias represents a convergence of indicators consistent with regional porphyry deposit models. Nobel is the first company to drill test this target, providing potential first-mover discovery optionality. The project's location within the proven Paleocene Porphyry Copper Belt, which hosts deposits like El Salvador and Spence, provides geological context, though drilling will be required to determine whether a mineralized porphyry system exists at depth.
